Drippings from a Teapot

Poetry by Miles Spence I have always been inspired to record the beauty all around me in word and art the scenery blue skies mountains in places I have lived. My love for poetry was rekindled in 2001 when American Poet Lewis E. Scott came to visit Nelson for an evening performance at The Artery and my jazz band was invited to accompany his performance. I absolutely love this country especially the South Island and have always vowed to return to Nelson in my old age having biked up here from Christchurch in 1937 with two cousins to pick apples. It was a long slow difficult trip on our fixed wheel bicycles towing our gear in handmade trailers on rough dirt roads and rough terrain. Our return trip after our holidays were over and wages long spent seemed a somewhat easier ride. It has taken me a while to return to Nelson but in 1999 I finally made it to paradise and now have no desire to live anywhere else. These poems have been written over several decades covering relevant topics of the day. I hope you enjoy them. Miles Spence
